Salman Rushdie

I watched a documentary on this British writer recently and found out that there is much more to him than the infamous book ‘The Satanic Verses’.   His career since the early 80’s has been very colorful to say the least.

  • 1989 His 4th Novel ‘The Satanic Verses’ caused an uproar amongst the Muslim population and the leader of Iran summoned him to death – he was left in hiding for years
  • 1999 Rushdie was appointed Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of France in January 1999
  • 2007 Rusdhie was knighted by the queen for his services to british literature
  • 2008 Named one of the 50 greatest British writers since 1945 – The Times

  1. His skills as a writer are beyond question. The one thing that raises questions about his judgement is his choice of subject and the way in which he tackled it.. I’m all creative and artistic expression, but be sensitive towards what people hold sacred.
