Jean Michel Basquiat (1960 – 1988)

Was recently introduced to the art of Jean Michel Basquiat (1960 – 1988), who started out as a Graffiti expressionist in New York in the early 70’s -80’s, under the working label of SAMO.  He was a homeless, hopeful artist who craved fame and recognition for his work more than anyone could realize.  Once Basquiat’s art was recognized, Andy Warhol took him under his wing as he thought Basquiat had the flair and rebellious image Warhol needed to further his own fame and inspiration.  Warhol and Basquiat collaborated numerous times and developed a strong bond , so strong that when Warhol died in 1987, Basquiat fell into the darkest hole of his heroin addiction, causing his death in 1988.
